Mile 1708-1726 near Big Red Mountain to Callahan's

Got up from our stealth camp in the forest unelectricuted. It turned out to be a clear starry night despite the earlier thunderstorm. The trail had no major ups or downs so it was a fairly quick undulating hike to Callahan's. we arrived at 2pm took showers, did laundry and drank our first complimentary beer and had lunch. There was a little snafu regarding the 90 gallon hotwater heater at the special hiker shower set up for us in the hotel garage (and me using it up).  Eventually, Tracy was able to shower too in one of the hotel's luxury suites.

The five of us (Astrid, Israh, Moonshadow, T and I) had a lovely "ciao for now" meal together. Persistence was at another table with his sister and parents and they bought us a round of drinks! While we were dining a guest left the jacuzzi running and it flooded the dining room. The guitarist kept on playing for quite some time, the people at the table with the water pouring on it just laughed. When the water started leaking our the electric lights near us the five of us simply stood up, lifted our table 6 feet away and continued eating.

The "hiker package" includes camping out on the lawn. We were joking about sneakily sleeping indoors in the reception room off the lobby when Tracy came up with the genius idea of just asking if we could! Israh, who has the best asking face (like the cat in Shrek) asked the receptionist. And she got the manager, and he said yes! So here we are in the lodge, all cosy and plugged in. Night night! X
