Mile 1804-1829 Snow Lakes to Mazama Camp site

Another day hiking through forest. Also a 20 mile stretch without water. After coffee and home-made brownies at our break 5 miles in, Tracy and I decided to go another 20 miles to Mazama and not dry camp before that. This way we could get away with carrying only a couple of liters of water each. Katie wasn't sure about how far she'd get with her foot, which may have a small stress fracture, so carried more water.
T and I made it to the highway then walked mile along the highway ( no hitching allowed in National Parks) to the store. We met other hikers there, bought beer and ice cream, did our laundry and showered and checked out the hiker box in a remarkably short space of time.

The only problem was that the camping sites were full and we are not allowed to camp within a mile of the place. All was solved when Brad and Melissa asked if we wanted to camp with them. A camper they'd been talking to had bought a site but no longer needed it. It could take three tents. So Persistance, T and I went along. Unfortunately it took a few miles of walking along the loops A-F before finding the unoccupied site. A lovely young girl called Taylor asked if she could have our photo. She spotted the hiker box outside the store and asked if we were PCT hikers. She is just about finished Cheryl Strayed's book, "Wild" and was excited to meet us.
