Mile 394-419 Buckhorn Campground to Mill Creek Summit Rangers Station

Got up and Ruby was boiling water, so Tracy and I both had a hot cup of coffee, a real treat in the morning. After cereal we said our goodbyes and started the day's hike.

The first half of the hike was dominated by the threat of poodle brush. One brush with this plant and it could be very nasty. This slowed things down a bit. Then there was a surprise poodle brush alternative route that had us walking along a relentless exposed fire road downhill.  I felt a little like a prisoner of war on a forced march. Without the related psychological trauma, but with all the physical pain. Finally we reached the Rangers Station. There were hikers there in the covered picnic table area attached to the building, getting water, charging phones and snacking in the shade. Most pushed on to stay at the campsite down the hill or to go a few more miles before dark.
Just as the sun was setting, about 8 of were still there when this hiker called Lunchbox arrives. He said he was really glad to find a group of us as he needed help finishing something. And then from out his backpack he pulled a mammoth bladder of red wine. We all decided to stay. Everyone happily cowboy camped.
