On the trail by 6am. Lovely morning. We were able to see the west fork of the Mojave River Valley. We could hear and see the long freight trains moving across the horizon and see a couple of small silver lakes that shone like mirrors. We came across a couple of trail angel water and goodie caches. We had a fresh piece of fruit and a hard boiled egg each and wrote our hiker names and thank yous in the hiker logs. Tracy has started calling me Haggis. People seem to like this. It generates conversation.
Another extremely hot day. Met more hikers and hung out at different water sources for meal breaks. The big topic on the trail today was "Are you going to try to get to McDonalds?". Smack in the middle of the PCT trail is a highway with a McDonalds on one side and a Best Western on the other. Even vegan, gluten and lactose intolerant, animal-loving meat haters were talking about the Golden Arches. For us, to get there would be a 22 mile day, a record for us.
I can happily report, as I recline in the opulence of the Best Western, clean, laundered, liquored and sated, that we made it. We cruised in at 5pm and have enjoyed every minute.
