That has to be the best title yet. We could have camped a mile before at the nameless water cache but Gobbler's Knob beckoned.
Though we had intended an early start, the Motel breakfast didn't start till 6am so it seemed a shame to miss it. Also, when Tracy peaked out the window of our room and reported cold and mist we reasoned we didn't need to leave early to beat the heat. So, we had a great breakfast, emailed re resupply boxes, ordered shoes and socks, facetimed parents, drained Tracy's blisters, darned the hole in my shoe, said hello to incoming hikers that we met at kick off, and packed up our stuff.
Yesterday we were lucky enough to be spotted by Ruby, a trail Angel, and offered a ride across the highway to the Motel. Today we walked across several short but scary sections to get back on the trail. As we left the gas station having filled up our water bladders we were spotted by Phillip ( Sweet tooth), a friend's friend from Seattle who was looking out for us. We ate a plate of fruit from a stand as we chatted.
We didn't get on the trail till after 1pm. After a couple of miles we met Coco and The Bald Guy on trail and shared a break at the water cache. At the next cache 10 miles on we met a Japanese guy (goku) and unleashed our rusty Japanese. So, desu ne!
We were able to view miles of the San Andreas fault. The mist really started to close in as it got later. We could only see about 20 ft around us. Creepy but fun. At 8pm, enveloped in the misty chill at Gobblers Knob we made camp and ate a dinner of meat and mash.
We are starting to develop a rating system for meals. We often share a pot so the good meals are "Bite for bite" vs the bad ones which are more "No, honestly, go ahead you can have 5 bites for my 1 bite". We're not serious about it.
However the sharing of cereal can draw blood. "Hey, your spoonfuls are way bigger than mine!" It is usually early in the morning so these words are not actually spoken but communicated very clearly by the eyes.
Another good day. I think we are beginning to enjoy this!

Glad you are beginning to enjoy yourselves. Remember most people will never be able to experience this king of thing. Love the blog-both the writing and the pictures. Love, Mom
Opps mispelled "kind". No spell check it seems. Mom
By the way I have my own trail name for Tracy. It is "twelve sheets". Only the insiders will know what this means. Mom
