Mile 1007-1018 Creek in Kennedy Canyon to Bridgeport via Sonora Pass

Last night I was woken by Tracy loudly whispering "the wind has sparked up the embers in the fire!" I looked out and could see it glowing.  T had asked the last people round the fire to make sure they put the fire out. Dont know if they were listening or they may have thought it too wet for anything to catch fire. Anyhow, we got up and used our water to put it out. I needed the loo and had thought about killing two birds with one stone, but the angles and balance required to hover over the fire pit, combined with the risk of someone shining their headlight were too great.

We had set the alarm at 5am and miraculously got on the trail at 5:45am. We had heard about "epic trail magic" waiting for hikers at the Sonora pass trailhead and also wanted to get into there early so we could be sure of getting a hitch into Bridgeport.

The colors were so nice at that time in the morning, we berated ourselves for not getting up at sunrise since the desert. It's always cool, beautiful, quiet, there's more chance if seeing animals and you get so many more miles in.

Today's hike took us to the end of the High Sierras and it was a spectacular finale. As we crossed over Sonora Pass the views dramatically changed and the mountains became softer.  We actually stood for a while to say goodbye to the high granite mountains and majesty of this section of the PCT. .

When we arrived at the trail head, there was no trail magic to be seen. However, we were in luck. There were two women who had pulled over on the side of the road, directly in front of us, to look at maps. As we appeared they looked at us with curiosity. Tracy asked them where they were going... Bridgeport, 40 miles away. They were on a car camping holiday and gladly gave us a ride straight there.

We were lucky to get a room at the Redwood Motel, this being so close to the 4th of July, and got a trailer to ourselves for 70 dollars. Bridgetown is a small cowboy town and easily walkable. We were able to get our laundry done, drop off our bear cans at the post office, and resupply at the General store in a few hours.

Right now at the Sports bar and grill having polished off 2 mushroom Swiss bacon avocado burgers and a pint of Pabst Blue Ribbon.  Aaaaah.

What is the field of white? Snow?
So good to have a blog fix.
Now you can see why I suggested that you take my "ultmate" mosquito net.
You would have the envy of all.
Love, Mom
