Mile 1018-1032 Bridgeport via Sonora Pass to Boulder Creek

We had a really good night's sleep in our trailer. So comfy. In the morning I walked to the general store and the bakery to get pastries, and coffee for Tracy. We got packed and went out to the road to hitch back to Sonora pass. I knew it was going to be difficult because when I was at the bakery I talked to 3 hikers, Sagitar, Moonshine and Leaky hitching again. They had tried to leave Bridgeport yesterday but got a ride half way and had to come back.

Long story, but we ended up hitching with a hiker called Fuller and it took 3 rides and 2 hours to get back up to the pass. The first ride was in the back of Huck's converted ambulance, the second was with a couple in a truck about to do some fishing, and the third was with a group of kids who had just graduated from High School.

At the trailhead there was a little sign indicating trail magic ahead. Apparently trail magic didn't arrive until 1pm yesterday, which was why we missed it. The trail Angel's name was Owl and he had a picnic table full of fruit, cookies, and drinks.

The start of the hike at around 1:30pm was hot as usual, but after about an hour a thunderstorm got underway. We were hailed on, rained on, there was thunder and lightning. Although climbing, fortunately most of the time we were following the canyon under tree cover. Several times the storm was quite frightening. This roller coaster of exhilaration/fear lasted until after 6pm. It made for fast hiking since neither of us wanted to stop for a rest.

Finally the storm stopped and we hiked on just long enough to get to a water source and a decent camp spot. We passed by Katie, Positive and One Pint who had got an earlier start from Bridgeport today.
