After a goodbye breakfast at the Keys cafe with Ruby, Katie and Pint, we went to stay with Jen, Tracy's friend from college. She and her husband Aaron and daughter Kira live in a lovely house nearby. After settling in at her home we borrowed her car and drove to surprise Sue at work, another of Tracy's old college friends from Chico State.
We spent two days with Jen and her family and were given the Royal treatment. They fed us, clothed us and thought about our every need. We had a great afternoon at the beach, went out for Thai food, we also spent quite a while using their computer to extend my tourist visa, scanning in documents etc. Glad to have that paperwork out of the way.
The next day we loaded everything in Jen's truck and drove to Debbie's, another college friend, in Nevada City, near the Grass Valley music festival. We had beers in Deb's trailer, "Honey" then her husband Tom made a great salmon dinner. The next day we drove early to the music festival grounds to drop and spread out tarps for our large group of peeps.
The festival is pretty expensive to go to at the last minute but Debs managed to score us some volunteering jobs that got us entry and camping for free.... at the kiddies paddle pool under a spray mister for 2 hours on thurs and 4 hours on Friday. As Tracy says, we had totally cake jobs. We had a good view of the main stage, were shaded, cool and we just had to make sure that no 3-5 year old drowned in 4 inches of water.
It was great seeing T's old pals including Lanai whom I know and love from our Japan days, and we had a great time. Thank you everyone. Even squeezed in a yoga session. However, the trail awaits. Tomorrow we head back.
