Today was a fairly easy hike and guess what, still beautiful scenery. We ran into Sexy Legs who was one of the hikers we met on the very first day at the Mexican border. He said he had whiskey to share at the 1000 mile mark.
Sure enough just after the 1000 mile point we rounded the corner and a group of us, including Muk Muk, and Senor Verde celebrated with whiskey and a swim in the creek.
The mountains are very theatrical. After our lovely swim in 90 degree heat, the skies started to turn a dark blue and we walked through an afternoon thunderstorm. Fortunately we were under the cover of very tall pines for the duration of the storm. Tracy, Katie and I huddled for just 5 mins at the storms worst point until the mosquitos forced us to move. This section has been very jungle like, the heat, humidity, mosquitos and sound of crickets. It is amazing just how different and varied the Sierras have been. Going over each pass has been exciting because each valley brings new surprises.
We walked on over wet ground after the storm until we reached a spot where hikers were having a camp fire and decided to stay the night. It was a fun group. Sexy Legs and Verde, my bros were filling me in on cool California hipster phrases. Tracy and I now speak something like this, wabosh!
Me: Dude I'm gonna crush this pass!
T: Yeah, get pitted!
Me: Dude, check out the sick view!
T: Sweet! Let's get faded, bro!
